About Me

From Refugee to Leader: My Journey

As a proud candidate for the City of Gosnells Council, I'm humbled to share my story. Born in Afghanistan, I experienced a happy childhood disrupted by war. Forced to flee, my family navigated the challenges of displacement, and I worked tirelessly from a young age to support them and care for my mother, who battled cancer. Despite her passing in 2000, I remained determined to build a better life.

In 2003, my siblings and I were granted refugee status and resettled in Australia. As the eldest, I guided and supported my siblings, who now contribute to Australian society as professionals in medicine, civil engineering, and business.

Leadership and Community

My commitment to giving back is reflected in my leadership roles:

  • President (2024) and current Vice President of the Multicultural Labor Organisation (MLO)
  • Secretary of the Afghan Australia Cultural Council of WA
  • Recognised as WA Refugee of the Year in 2004

Professional Experience

As a telecommunications technician with WP and health and safety representative, I demonstrate my dedication to creating safer workplaces and supporting colleagues.

My Vision for Gosnells

A stronger, safer, and more connected community, where diversity is celebrated, and everyone has opportunities to thrive. I'll leverage my experience to foster unity and understanding, break down barriers, and ensure everyone feels valued and included.
